Halloween Safety Tips For Your Pet

Keep your furry friends safe during the spookiest night of the year by taking some basic safety precautions.

  1. Keep all halloween candy out of reach. Halloween candy and wrappers are very dangerous for your pets.
  2. Use caution when opening the door for trick-or-treaters. Halloween is a prime time for dogs to run out of the house out of fear or excitement. Consider keeping your pets in another room while opening the door or keeping them on a leash during the trick-or-treating excitement. If you keep them in another room, turn on some music and keep them busy with a chew toy.
  3. Comfort over cuteness. Ensure your pet is comfortable in the costume you choose for them. Some costumes may not fit right or may not feel comfortable on your pet. Pay attention to your pet for signs of discomfort.
  4. Put up a sign. Put a sign on your door and doorbell to ask trick-or-treaters to knock. Knocking may irritate your pet less than the doorbell.
  5. Ensure your pet is microchipped and tagged. If your pet is able to get out in the commotion of trick-or-treaters, a microchip and tag can ensure they are found.
